eSilkroad is the first working title of the Network. It was used until December 2017. The video was designed for the presentation at “2017 Xi'an Silk Road Business Summit”, which was held on September 8, 2017. Therefore, in the video the previous name — eSilkroad is used instead of the new one — e-Silknet.

The project is meant to become the Digital Silk Road to enhance “One Belt, One Road” initiative of China and complement the existing Maritime Silk Road and Terrestrial Silk Road.
